Cashmere Group Wins Injunction

The Camel Hair & Cashmere Institute of America has won a decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals here ordering a lower court to issue a preliminary injunction against a major retailer and a manufacturer who had sold coats mislabeled as to cashmere content.

Enjoined are Associated Dry Goods and its subsidiary, Lord & Taylor, and the manufacturer, Mr. Coats, Inc., and Mr. Coats For Her, Inc. Th institute is still seeking a permanent injunction and compensatory and punitive damages.

The original suit, which was filed on Oct. 29, 1985, also named Federated Department Stores and its Filene's division, but the court ruled that the retailer showed good faith by removing the coats from sale. The appeals court also...
