Gregg: Congress To Pass Textile Trade Controls

NEW YORK -- The textile industry can expect to see protection in the form of major trade legislation from the 100th Congress when it convenes in January, according to John N. Gregg, chairman of Avtex Fibers, Inc., but the fight to control imports is far from over.

Gregg, in remarks made here Tuesday afternoon at a National Conference of Christians and Jews luncheon, where he was honored with the Textile division's National Brotherhood Award, said that the recent Democratic takeover of the Senate favors reintoduction of protective legislation focusing on textile imports.
