Undergrad Clemson Robot Handles Material Like It Had Eyes GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Researchers at Clemson University have developed a robot with a vision system that can locate a piece of fabric, pick it up and move it with an end effector. But it likely will be five to 10 years before the material-handling system will be in use in the workplace, said Dr. Frank W. Paul, director of Clemson's Engineering Center for Automated Manufacturing.

"It's not done really fast, but we're living in processing times with vision system capabilites. We're talking with some textile people now about some funding to pursue this," Paul said recently.
