Men's Soft Slacks Not A Hard Sell NEW YORK -- Men's slacks makers are convinced the rapid growth of soft-constructed and unconstructed casual bottoms in washed fabrics over the past several seasons will continue through fall 1987 and beyond. Most feel that the category will become an established segment of the men's bottoms business.

They are divided, however, about the impact the growth of this category is having on the rest of the bottoms business. Many think that sales of these slacks are eating into sales of traditional constructed, belted polyester/cottons. Some manufacturers think they are also eating into the jeans business, but others say that jeans sales are currently very strong.
