Hint Veto Awaits New Textile Bill WASHINGTON (FNS) -- Asserting the textile industry is operating near capacity and making money, a Reagan Administration official Monday hinted that the White House will oppose a textile-apparel protection bill, perhaps again setting the stage for a clash with Congress.

"Certainly, there are serious, but isolated problems in the (textile-apparel) industry. No one denies this," said the official, who requested anomymity.

"But the industry is operating at 90 per cent of capacity today and earning a profit," the official said. "We must be very careful with any (proposed legislation) that would impact our obligations under the Multi-Fiber Arrangement and the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade."
