Apparel Trucker Charged in Union Busting

NEWARK (FNS)--Both a New Jersey-based apparel trucker and the reputed head of the Genovese organized crime family Thursday were charged in a civil RICO complaint with arranging the gradual "deunionization" of Local 560 through sweatheart deals.

New England Motor Freight, of Elizabeth, and its chief executive, Myron Shevell, were charged with working with convicted murderer and twice-convicted labor-peace extortionist Anthony Provenzano to arrange the sweatheart deals, which allowed NEMF to use an increasing number of non-union drivers and dockmen.

The complaint seeks to set aside the illegally gotten sweatheart deals and restore the Local's bargaining unit before the sweetheart arrangement in 1975. ...
