ACTW Expects Wage Proposals From All Southern Mills by Yearend CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union expects to have wage increase proposals from all major textile firms in the South before the end of the year, Bruce Raynor, ACTW vice-president and Southern regional director, told DNR.

"We're applying all the pressure we can to move all the union companies on wages before the end of the year," Raynor said.

The most recent settlement for ACTW workers was with WestPoint Pepperell, which has been locked in a bitter struggle to avoid a hostile takeover.

When WestPoint acquired portions of J.P. Stevens & Co., it got approximately 600 union workers at the former Stevens' plant in Drakes Branch, Va.
