Adidas to Close 3 Plants; Aims at Far East Production PARIS (FNS) -- Citing high manufacturing costs in its native West Germany, athletic footwear and apparel maker Adidas will close three apparel factories and transfer half of all its production to the Far East by 1990.

In the first half of 1989, Adidas plans to close its apparel plants in Kelheim, Nabburg, and Sussen, West Germany, according to a spokesman for the company. The shutdowns will affect 248 workers, who won't be reclassified within Adidas because, "they're skilled in textiles and we will no longer have any textile activities in West Germany."
