U.S. BUYERS AREN'T OVERLY IMPRESSED

MILAN (FNS) -- American retailers are keeping their Italian men's wear buys on par with last year's after seeing most of what they are calling an uneven season in Milan and Florence.

High points from the collections, according to buyers, include: . The strong color statement by the Italians for summer; . More active sportswear and casual weekend wear; . Innovative fabrications and high quality from tailored clothing manufacturers.

Price continued to be the main concern for buyers despite the renewed strength of the dollar. The dollar has risen about 8 percent against the Italian lira over last year, making prices for the American market stable if not lower than last year. But the impact will be minimal...
