POLLUTER LIST FOULED, TEXTILE EXECUTIVES SAY WASHINGTON (FNS) -- Textile officials are crying foul over a list compiled by an environmental group that includes their firms among the top 500 polluters in the United States.
The data upon which the report was based, which was supplied by the firms to the Environmental Protection Agency, is incorrect, textile officials from some of the plants say. The disputed report was issued by the National Wildlife Federation.
"We shouldn't be on that list at all," said Bob Slough, a spokesman for Springs Industries, Inc., of Lancaster, S.C. which was ranked 90 on the list.
