TIFFANY FLAGS TO FLY HALF-STAFF FOR HOVING
NEW YORK -- Flags will be flying at half-staff at Tiffany & Co. the rest of this week in honor of the late Walter Hoving, who was at the helm of the store for 25 years.
The retired retailer died Monday in Newport, R.I., where he had resided for the past year. He was 91 years old.
A tribute to Hoving, who was Tiffany's chairman from 1955 to 1980, will be organized by the store when William Chaney, the current chairman, returns from a business trip to Europe on Thursday.
Chaney said in a prepared statement: "The achievements of Walter Hoving have become a part of the living legacy of Tiffany's, and always will be an enduring testament to his retailing genius."
