PROTECTIVE APPAREL IN AIDS BATTLE
ATLANTA -- Along with fear, AIDS -- the scourge of the '80s -- has brought with it skyrocketing awareness of the need for better protective clothing.
Those at most risk of on the job infection by the deadly disease and other bloodborne pathogens, such as hepatitis are health care workers and researchers.
Protective clothing is their direct line of defense, and health care facilities and research laboratories are setting up standards and guidelines for workers, based on those proposed by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and medical associations.
