WOOLWORTH TO EXPAND SPECIALTY STORE OPS

NEW YORK (FNS) - Woolworth Corp. sad it plans to spend $325 million this year to expand its specialty store operations.

In a prepared statement, Harold E. Sells, chairman and chief executive officer, said the company plans to open approximately 735 stores during 1990, Over 90 percent of the new stores will be specialty units, and of these most will be concentrated in the Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker, Kids Mart, Champs Sports and Afterthoughts units.

Woolworth's planned 1990 capital outlays, which do not include the costs of any acquisitions, follow capital expenditures of 315 milion, ecluding acquisitions made during the year ended Jan. 27,1990.
