STEPHEN THORPE has joined FILENE'S as senior vice-president of sales promotion and marketing. Thorpe was senior vice-president for May Co. Ohio. Filene's is a division of May Department Stores Co. Thorpe will report to Heywood Wilansky, president and chief executive officer of Filene's. In addition, DON RALPH has been promoted to senior vice-president of operations.

Formerly vice-president of distribution, Ralph will report to Joseph Melvin, Filene's chairman. In other news, MARK FACHETTI has been promoted to general manager of Filene's Wellesley, Mass., store.
