An arbitration tribunal decided that the Giorgio Armani Fashion Corp must sell its Borgonuovo collection to Barneys New York's new Madison Avenue branch. Armani must sell the collection to Barneys as long as the latter meets prescribed conditions because of a contract signed in 1979. However, a second decision that Armani could control sales to Barneys branches outside New York, NY, led the company to pull the line from Barneys in Dallas and Houston, TX. Polo/Ralph Lauren had also recently stopped sales of its lines to two Barneys branches in New York City.
