NEW YORK -- Fieldcrest Cannon and the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union are "on the brink of an all-out fight," according to Bruce Raynor, executive vice-president of the ACTW.
At a press conference held Friday in Greensboro, N.C., Raynor noted that for the first time in 40 years the union and Fieldcrest Cannon failed to reach a contract agreement, with the rejection of the company's "final offer" last week.
He accused the company of offering an unacceptable contract "to make Fieldcrest a prettier package for another takeover artist." He said that controlling shareholders of Fieldcrest "have indicated that they are prepared to sell their interest to the highest bidder."
