The Gap encounters a legal snag to conduct business in France.

Industry reports confirm that the Gap Inc is negotiating with real estate firm Kaufman and Broad to open a 14,000 square foot shop in a new Paris, France shopping center currently under construction. The Gap has been stalled in its attempt to expand in France because of a two-year old trademark infringement lawsuit brought by Big Star SA. Big Star controls the trademark for Gap Star, a European sportswear chain with many stores in France. A court decision on the case is expected in Sept 1993.

PARIS-- Whether or not the Gap wins its trademark challenge to do business in France, industry sources have confirmed that the Gap is negotiating with international real estate firm Kaufman & Broad, to finalize a contract to open a store here in the new shopping mall Passy Plaza....
