The sportswear industry trend of licensing both professional sports team logos and cartoon characters for clothing may have reached its peak and could be finished by spring 1994. The trend has spread from the men's to young women's and children's markets with such pairings as Major League Baseball, National Football League and National Hockey League logos with Fred Flintstone and Bugs Bunny. Herman's Sporting Goods stores also report strong sales for shirts showing the Tasmanian Devil carrying a football.
NEW YORK -- Cartoon characters that have been paired with pro teams have proven to be a boon to the licensed team apparel business. That is, at least until the Christmas season is over.
