Furnishing firms to hike offshore production in face of higher costs; in attempt to hold price points in soft market.

Men's furnishing manufacturers such as Randa Corp, Perry Ellis and the Designer Group are beginning to shift the greater proportion of their production to such offshore locales as the Dominican Republic due to the rising costs of raw materials. Despite a dismal domestic retail climate, the prices of such items as silk, cotton and polyester have risen and rather than increase the prices of such things as neckwear and dress shirts, the manufacturers believe that they can hold price points by shifting production overseas.
