NEW YORK -- Neiman Marcus and Lord & Taylor are planning to open stores in the Garden State Plaza in 1996, as part of a $200 million, 700,000-square-foot expansion of the Paramus, N.J., mall.

The expansion should establish the mall as a regional shopping powerhouse.

Along with the two new anchors, 130 more specialty shops are expected to move in, giving the center more than 300 store units and over two million square feet of space, according to Westfield Holdings Ltd., the large shopping center developer based in Sydney, Australia.

Groundbreaking on the two-year project is scheduled for Sept. 21, Westfield said in a statement.
