Federated weighs selling its specialty store units. (Federated Department Stores, Aeropostale, Charter Club)(Brief Article)

NEW YORK - Federated Department Stores said Wednesday the company will begin exploring the possibility of selling its Aeropostale and Charter Club national specialty store operations.

Federated has retained Merrill Lynch to assist in the process.

In addition, Richard Crystal, currently chairman of the specialty store division and Macy's Product Development, win resign July 31.

"Federated's primary focus is on running premier department stores, which is a much different business than specialty retailing," said Allen Questrom, Federated's chairman and CEO.
