WASHINGTON (FNS) -- Men's retail prices in June continued to reflect heightened competitiveness in the industry, declining a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent against May compared to a 0.1 percent increase for all consumer goods, the Labor Department reported Friday in its monthly Consumer Price Index.

Analysts point to the popularity of wrinkle-resistant pants and shirts as giving a particular boost to men's prices.

"They have been able to keep prices stable for those products," a Labor analyst said, noting how the index for jeans and trousers increased 1.2 percent in June, although compared to June 1994, prices were down 1.1 percent.
