Profits up 17% at Warnaco men's unit; 2d-quarter gain paced by Chaps by Ralph Lauren brand.(Warnaco Group Inc.)

The menswear division of Warnaco Group Inc contributed substantially to the group's strong 2nd qtr 1995 financial results, according to CEO Linda J. Wachner. She cited the Chaps by Ralph Lauren brand as the most significant contributor to a 17.2% operating earnings increase in Warnaco's menswear business. Earnings before adjustments stood at $3.4 million on sales of $40.8 million. Overall, Warnaco reported a 52% increase in after-tax earnings, to $9.3 million, boosted by its Calvin Klein brand and core intimate apparel brands.
