Coville survives recall nightmare, sees stronger fabric business.(Fiber + Fabric Focus)(Column)

Coville Inc, a manufacturer of specialty circular knit fabrics, initiated a voluntary recall in Jan 1995 that involved the knit converter's Highlander sherpa fleece. The Consumer Products Safety Commission determined that the fabric was not flame retardant and so Coville stopped production of it, notified its factors and then recalled both fabric and garments made from it. Coville's immediate action and responsible approach to the faulty product situation did not impact its sales for the year, and Pres Henry Jordan anticipates that sales will be equally as good in 1996.
