Apparel makers had mixed reactions to Barneys New York's bankruptcy filing. Some defended the upscale retailer, but others decried the company's record of slow payments and lack of responsiveness. Some apparel vendors, responding to slow payments, negotiated guaranteed payment or cash-in-advance plans with Barneys, but the retailer reportedly stopped adhering to those policies in Nov 1995.
