MONTREAL -- In a move designed to "eliminate duplication," Hudson's Bay Co. said it will consolidate the back-office operations of Zellers and the Bay.

As a result, Paul S. Walters has resigned as chief operating officer of Zellers. George J. Kosich, president and CEO of Hudson's Bay and chairman of Zellers Inc., will take on the added post of Zellers' chief operating officer.

In a statement, the company said Zellers' operational offices here will be consolidated with the Bay's offices and the Hudson's Bay Co.'s corporate offices in Toronto.

The company said it will also move its credit-account-processing function for all of Canada here in Montreal, and consolidate it with its existing Eastern Credit Office.
