NEW YORK -- North American Rayon Corp. (NAR), the only U.S. producer of rayon filament fiber, will cease manufacturing of textile and industrial rayon late this year or in early 1997, Charles Greene, president, told DNR Thursday.

ICF Industries Inc., a New York-based company representing Akzo Nobel, the large Dutch rayon producer, will take over NAR's filament rayon contracts. ICF has been the sole source of Akzo's Enka Rayon filament in the U.S. for several years.

Greene said that NAR's decision to cease manufacturing textile and industrial rayon "was due to adverse economic conditions." The company has been plagued with labor problems in recent years, and market sources reported that it had quality and delivery problems.
