NEW YORK -- With cotton and polyester costs slowing dropping and some improvement in its Alamac knitting operation, WestPoint Stevens Inc. said it should see earnings growth of 20 percent or better for fiscal 1996 and beyond.
Sales at the textile firm are expected to gain between 5 percent and 7 percent, for the year, Holcombe T. Green Jr., chairman and chief executive, said at last week's Prudential Securities Textile and Apparel Conference at the Millennium Broadway hotel here. "We are quite bullish about the balance of 1996 and beyond," Green said. Alamac Knits, WestPoint's apparel fabrics division, is expected to see increased sales, resulting from Burlington Industries' decision to close its knits business, Green noted.
