Hampshire setting deals with Beene, VF; will get the two sweater licenses for spring '98. (Hampshire Designers Inc., Geoffrey Beene Inc.)(Brief Article)

NEW YORK -- Hampshire Designers Inc., a subsidiary of Hampshire Group Ltd., has signed letters of intent with VF Corp. and Geoffrey Beene Inc., respectively, to obtain the licenses to produce and market men's sweaters under the Jantzen and Geoffrey Beene labels.

The current licensee for both of these product lines is Phillips-Van Heusen Corp.'s Somerset Knitting Mills division. P-VH will ship the two sweater lines through holiday, said Gene Warsaw, president and CEO of Hampshire Designers. That company has formed a new men's division, Hampshire Brands, which will start shipping the Jantzen and Geoffrey Beene sweaters for spring '98, he said.
