Slates Signs Hosiery License.(Brief Article)

NEW YORK -- Slates, the nearly two-year-old dress pants brand from Levi Strauss & Co., has licensed Royce Hosiery Mills Inc. for the development and marketing of Slates-brand hosiery. It is Slates' first licensing agreement. According to Nancy Friedman, Slates' director of marketing and research, the hosiery will be sold in the same distribution channels as Slates dress pants.

"Men are paying even more attention to socks," Friedman said. "When men aren't wearing ties, it's a way of showing personal style. The dress sock category is similar to what the dress pant category was. It was kind of sleepy and in need of a brand and some excitement."
