DUPONT COMMITTED TO GROWING ITS MATURE FIBERS BUSINESSES: COMPANY SEES STRATEGIC ALLIANCES AS ONE WAY TO EXPAND POLY, NYLON AREAS.

WILMINGTON, Del. -- DuPont, while still committed to its polyester and nylon businesses, is "very interested in working out some strategic alliances" involving those fiber sectors, according to Ed Van Wely, senior vice-president, responsible for the Foundation business group.

In an interview with DNR following DuPont's annual meeting Wednesday, Van Wely discussed his plans for the Dacron polyester and nylon operations, which are now part of the Foundation business group, one of three units into which the company was reorganized last month. The others are Differentiated, which includes Lycra spandex fibers, and Life Sciences.
