NEW YORK -- Nine years ago, Jeff Kabat went on vacation to Vermont and saw some people in-line skating. An idea came to him: What if people could rent in- line skates back home? Taking the knowledge he'd acquired while working at Andersen Consulting, Kabat quit his job to pursue a full-time career in retail.
