Liz Claiborne chairman and CEO Paul Charron had heard for years that his company "needed some cowboys."
"Well, we finally got 'em," Charron told DNR recently.
The cowboys are Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman, co-founders of Lucky Brand Dungarees, the brand Claiborne purchased last month.
With the acquisition complete as of last week -- Claiborne bought 85 percent for an undisclosed amount -- it raises the question of what role Montesano and Perlman will play and what will happen to Lucky's squeaky clean distribution as Claiborne attempts to grow the business from its current $60 million level to $200 million within five years -- a goal analysts think is within reach.
