HOLLAND & HOLLAND COLONIZES SAKS; VENERABLE ENGLISH COMPANY, IN MIDST OF BRAND REPOSITIONING, TESTS THE WATERS WITH SHOP-IN SHOPS.

Classic English label Holland & Holland -- currently undergoing a repositioning -- is testing the waters for its new fashion line (designed by French designer Jose Levy) and concept through the introduction of three shop-in-shops at Saks Fifth Avenue, the first of which opened in Dallas two weeks ago. Two other Saks locations, Chicago and San Francisco, are soon to follow.

The shop-in-shops, which were designed by Peter Marino (of Barneys and Chanel fame), are part of a leasing arrangement with Saks Fifth Avenue. According to Charlie Kappler, director of marketing for Holland & Holland, the company does not currently wholesale, but is currently considering the possibility of wholesaling for fall 2000.
