Martin Greenfield, who spent decades tailoring suits for presidents, sports celebrities and scores of CEOs, points an accusing finger at the dot-com whiz kids in California's Silicon Valley. The president and CEO of Martin Greenfield Clothiers blames them for the dress-down syndrome that's rocking the clothing business.

But as far as he's concerned, his made-to-measure clothing business at Brooks Brothers is "as gold as gold." One reason, he explains, is the subtle, but sure, turnaround he's finding during his trunk shows at the store's two branches in the San Francisco Bay Area. He does 25 shows nationally each season for Brooks.
