DUARTE'S FORMER PARTNERS FILE SUIT.

LOS ANGELES -- What's in a name? Plenty to Shawn Karama and his partners operating under the Mink Vox Corp., who filed suit last week in U.S. district court against former designing partner Henry Duarte over the use of his name.

As reported, the designer, whose intricately pieced denim and leather jeans and jackets have been hits among major rock stars, walked away from the store owned by Mink Vox in February. Two months later he re-emerged, operating under the Duarte brand and shipping to such retailers as Maxfield and Louis Boston.

The complaint contends that Mink Vox is the exclusive designer, manufacturer and vendor of tops and bottoms sold under the Henry Duarte brand and that it owns the federal trademark registration of the name. It...
