NEW YORK -- One year after terrorist attacks destroyed the World Trade Center, men's wear stores near Ground Zero remain committed to the area. Although consumer spending is down and foot traffic has dropped dramatically, retailers expect that New York City will eventually rebound.

In fact, Brooks Brothers, whose battered downtown store served as a makeshift morgue following the attacks, is set to reopen this week.

"We'll reopen either September 11 around noon or September 12," Mark Shulman, president of Retail Brand Alliance, Brooks' parent, told DNR last week. "We felt it was something we should do to be supportive to the city. If we had walked away, the other guys would have won and we couldn't let that happen."
