SAN DIEGO -- Surf is making a comeback for spring 2003. That's the word from retailers and manufacturers who worked the Action Sports Retailer Expo (ASR) held at the San Diego Convention Center Sept. 5-7.
Tim Harmon, president and chief merchandising officer for the Anaheim, Calif.-based Pacific Sunwear and d.e.m.o. retail stores, first noticed the shift from skate to surf in February. "Our surf business is growing very strongly," he said. "I've been at PacSun for 11 years and this is my fourth cycle of going skate, surf, skate, surf. It just happens all the time."
