The short answer is: very likely on both counts. But first, what is lastol? It's a new fiber for which Dow Chemical received a generic subclassification in early February. Dow, which is trying to market lastol as DOW XLA elastic fiber, has formed a division around it, called Dow Fiber Solutions (DFS).

It is a very global operation. After a short time in New York, DFS marketing is now based in Horgen, Switzerland. The fiber, a special polypropylene, is being produced in small quantities in Taiwan. Dow has plans for a full-scale lastol plant, but has not yet picked a location. The company is producing the special olefin raw material in Texas and Tarragona, Spain.
