What a difference a year made! It was only 12 months ago when I made my annual tour of the men's stores in Southampton, East Hampton and the unHampton, better known as Sag Harbor. Last year the Hamptons looked like an outpost of Nantucket, the preppie heaven. True, punchy Etro- and H Hilfiger-type striped sport shirts were around, but it was all pretty much a replay of Brooks Brothers meets Polo.
