LOS ANGELES -- With the snip of a navy-blue grosgrain ribbon last Monday, storied clothier Brooks Brothers filled a void in the Orange County men's wear market it vacated four years ago, opening a 12,479-square-foot flagship store at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa.

"It's great to be back in Orange County," said Chris Holt, manager of the new location, who said the company had been a tenant at Fashion Island shopping center in nearby Newport Beach from 1980 to 2000.

The new store occupies prime real estate at the top of an escalator of the Robinsons-May wing of California's largest shopping center, in a location formerly occupied by Limited, Structure and Bath & Body Works. Stores in the tony South Coast Plaza are...
