SURF AND SKATE PREP FOR SPRING AT ASR SHOW.(Brief Article)

SAN DIEGO -- Preppie pastels and embellished button-front wovens added a trendy edge to the traditional surf-and-skate aesthetic at the Action Sports Retailer (ASR) show, held here Sept. 10-12 at the San Diego Convention Center.

"Without exception, the labels were doing a lot of fashion-forward things," said Tak Kawahara, owner of CHP USA, a surf retailer in Redondo Beach, Calif.

Though some key Florida retailers were unable to travel to San Diego because of hurricane activity in the Southeast, show traffic was heavy and vendors reported a strong start on the opening day.
