NEW YORK -- Capital Mercury Apparel Ltd. has long been a serious player in the private-label business and it's had several flirtations with brands of its own.

Now Capital Mercury wants to get a bigger piece of the branded business by taking a focused, fashion-driven concept to the main floor. With its new shirt collection, NYNE, the New York-based firm thinks it now has the right combination of timing and product.
