It was an afternoon of firsts at this year's MDFA. Achievement Awards. In a new venue at B.B. King's on West 42nd Street last week, the group honored merchants and fashion influencers including industry newcomer Donald Trump, Lord & Taylor's Jane Elfers, and Silvio Albini, the first shirt weaver ever to be recognized by the association.
According to John Minahan, who serves on the board of the MDFA and presented the awards, it was also the largest turnout for the event in its 28-year history. The overflowing crowd in the lower-level restaurant Lucille's was undoubtedly brought in by the star power of Trump, whose Signature clothing and dress furnishings lines launched this year.
