NEW YORK -- The most popular topic of conversation at Project New York last week wasn't the hottest trends for spring '06, but rather the sweltering heat inside the Starrett-Lehigh Building, where the air-conditioning conked out early. Sweaty vendors talked about requesting rebates, while those situated in the Metropolitan Pavilion luxuriated in their climate-controlled venue. "It's been a long, stressful day," said Sam Ben-Avraham, owner of Project, after toiling to fix the air-conditioning mess. (A battery of high-powered fans were installed on the second day of the show to help cool things off.)
