SAN FRANCISCO -- On the eve of Dockers' 20th anniversary and six months into his tenure as president of Levi Strauss & Co.'s U.S. Dockers business, John Goodman met with DNR for an in-depth Q&A session in his sixth-floor corner office at Levi Strauss Plaza. With an expansive view of the San Francisco Bay Bridge as a backdrop, Goodman talked extensively about his plans for the brand. Before that, however, we addressed a lighter matter.

DNR: I HAVE TO GET THIS OUT OF THE WAY FIRST. DO YOU GET A LOT OF "ROSEANNE" JOKES?

JOHN GOODMAN: All the time -- especially when I go to someplace like a restaurant or Disneyland. Everybody expects the actor [of the same name] to walk in and then I show up. Once a restaurant stayed open...
