Edward Menicheschi was named vice-president and publisher of Vanity Fair last Wednesday, effective immediately. He succeeds Alan Katz, who is leaving the company, and reports to Charles H. Townsend, president and CEO of Cond Nast Publications. Menicheschi was previously president of WWD Media Worldwide, also a unit of Cond Nast Publications, where he oversaw WWD, WWD.com, DNR and Footwear News.

Invista has sold its European polyester-yarn business to Performance Fibers Holdings, an affiliate of the U.S.-based Sun Capital Partners investment firm. According to the terms of the deal, Performance Fibers Holdings, a specialist in high-tenacity polyester, will acquire three manufacturing operations in Germany.
