NEW YORK - Changes are afoot at Capital Mercury Apparel Ltd.

The New York-based manufacturer said last week that Jay Schwartz, its chairman, and Richard (Dick) Bebon, president, retired on Nov. 30, and John C. Higdon has been elevated to CEO, a newly created position.

Since 1996, Higdon has been treasurer, CFO and a member of Capital Mercury's board of directors. In a statement, the company said Higdon was chosen for the top post "in light of his many years of experience in directing Capital Mercury's strategic planning and operations."
