SHANGHAI - Hennes & Mauritz has landed in China.

The fast-fashion retailer opened its first store in Mainland China on April 12 and, although the chain is virtually unknown in the Chinese market, the Shanghai store's opening day attracted lines around the block.

"It is the opening of the brand, not just of a store," said spokeswoman Kristina Stenvinkel.

H&M celebrated the launch with a gala disco party on April 11 at Pudong's Science and Technology Museum, where singer Kylie Minogue, who has a line of women's apparel at the stores, performed to over 1,000 guests.
