Kellwood Co. is acquiring outdoor-lifestyle apparel company Royal Robbins for approximately $40 million in cash from Phoenix Footwear Group Inc. The transaction is expected to close by early July. Robert Orlando, president of Royal Robbins, and his team will continue with the company. Orlando will report to George J. Grabner Jr., president of American Recreation Products.

Cole Haan has tapped B. Robinson Optical to produce its first line of sunwear, which will come to market next spring. The licensee, which also makes eyewear for Isaac Mizrahi, Lucky Brand Jeans and Betsey Johnson, will produce 18 men's styles ranging in price from $125 to $500 for limited editions.
